Terms of Service

Effective date: April 27, 2026  |  Last updated: April 27, 2026

These Terms govern your use of Skipi, including the Skipi desktop application, the Skipi Crewing desktop application, skipi.app, and related online services. Skipi is operated by Tymur Rudov ("we", "us").

1. What Skipi Is

Skipi is a local-first maritime document and communication tool. Depending on the component you use, it may provide:

2. Not a Recruitment or Placement Agency

Skipi is not a crewing agency, manning agency, recruitment agency, employment agency, shipowner, employer, or placement service.

Skipi does not select, screen, rank, recommend, hire, place, or employ seafarers. Skipi does not decide whether a seafarer is suitable for a vessel or vacancy. Skipi does not negotiate employment terms, issue employment contracts, collect placement fees, or track hiring outcomes.

Skipi is a communication and document-handling tool. The seafarer decides whether to enable job alerts, whether to contact an employer, and what data or documents to disclose. The employer or Skipi Crewing user decides whether to publish a vacancy, reply, request further information, shortlist, reject, or hire. Those decisions are made outside Skipi's control.

3. Target Markets and Jurisdictional Limits

At this stage, Skipi is developed primarily for maritime users and companies in Ukraine, Russia, India, the Philippines, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and comparable non-EEA markets. The current online services are not intentionally offered as a public EU/UK recruitment or job-placement platform.

If you access or use Skipi from another jurisdiction, or use Skipi to process data or publish vacancies that target another jurisdiction, you are responsible for complying with the laws that apply to you, including employment, recruitment, crewing, licensing, labour, data protection, sanctions, and export-control rules.

4. Local-First Desktop App

The Skipi desktop application is designed so that core features work locally. Your vault, documents, generated CVs, packages, and sea service records are stored in a folder you choose on your device. You are responsible for backing up that folder and protecting access to your device.

Local certificate frameworks, expiry reminders, CV generation, and document organization are convenience tools only. They are not legal, regulatory, classification, flag-state, immigration, or employment advice.

5. Jobs Board and Contact Initiation

If a seafarer enables job alerts, the desktop app may request public vacancy data from skipi.app using broad filters such as rank or vessel type. Matching happens on the seafarer's device. The server is not intended to store a seafarer profile or perform personalized matching.

When a seafarer starts contact with an employer, the seafarer chooses the method and content: for example redacted CV, full CV, email, document package, or encrypted message where available.

6. Employer and Crewing Responsibilities

Employers, crewing companies, ship managers, and other company-side users are solely responsible for:

7. Verification Is Not Endorsement

Skipi may verify employer-side users by checking information such as corporate email, legal name, registration number, MLC or crewing licence details, website, or other documentation.

Verification only means that specified information was checked at a point in time. It is not an endorsement, recommendation, guarantee, safety rating, financial assessment, or assurance that the company complies with all applicable laws. Users should independently verify any job offer, company, vessel, contract, and request for money or documents.

8. Your Content and Data

You remain responsible for the documents, messages, vacancy text, reviews, files, and other content you create, store, upload, send, or publish using Skipi. You must not use Skipi to submit forged documents, impersonate another person or company, publish misleading vacancies, harass users, distribute malware, or facilitate unlawful activity.

When you use an online feature, you grant us the limited rights needed to transmit, store, route, display, or process your content solely to provide that feature.

9. Encrypted Messaging and Package Relay

Where end-to-end encrypted messaging is available, message content is encrypted on the sender's device and stored by the server as ciphertext. The server may still process routing metadata such as public user IDs, timestamps, message size, and thread IDs.

Where package or attachment relay is available, links and hosted files may have expiry periods and download limits. Recipients may download, copy, forward, or store documents outside Skipi. Skipi cannot control copies already delivered to a recipient.

10. AI and Automation

Optional AI or OCR features, where present, are document-assistance tools for the user. They are not a substitute for manual review. Skipi does not provide automated hiring decisions and does not decide whether a seafarer should be selected for work.

If an employer uses external AI, screening, ranking, or decision tools outside Skipi, that employer is solely responsible for the legality and fairness of that use.

11. Open-Source Client and Proprietary Services

The public Skipi seafarer desktop client source code may be made available under the MIT License in its repository. The Skipi name, logo, trademarks, website content, backend services, Skipi Crewing application, hosted infrastructure, non-public code, and commercial services are not granted under that MIT License unless expressly stated.

12. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

13. Suspension and Removal

We may reject, remove, hide, suspend, or disable access to content, vacancies, messages, accounts, company profiles, or online features if we believe they violate these Terms, create legal or security risk, or may harm users.

14. Disclaimers

Skipi is provided "as is" and "as available." We do not guarantee that vacancy information is accurate, that employers or seafarers are trustworthy, that documents are authentic, that certificate frameworks are complete, or that any job, contract, inspection, audit, vetting, immigration, or employment outcome will occur.

15. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, punitive, or lost-profit damages, or for losses arising from employment decisions, document misuse by recipients, missed certificate dates, false vacancy information, fraud by third parties, or reliance on information provided through Skipi.

16. Changes

We may update these Terms as the product changes. The "Last updated" date shows the current version. Material changes may be announced on skipi.app or through the application where practical.

17. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Georgia, unless mandatory law in your jurisdiction requires otherwise.
